作品介绍

《Soft Spoon》将以太坊状态回拨至 TheDAO 合约部署前的最后一个区块，并从下一高度启用新的 Chain ID，让一条未经历 TheDAO 事件的平行链重新生长。

作品以“Soft Spoon（软勺）”戏仿“Hard Fork（硬分叉）”。它不修补现实中已经发生的链上裂痕，而是把区块状态锚定在 TheDAO 合约尚未部署的时刻，从源头建立另一条时间线。

技术上，作品改造早期 Geth 客户端，在区块 #1428757 起使用 Chain ID 2517，并启用 EIP-155 重放保护；挖矿难度被重置到普通 CPU 可以参与的水平，同时移除早期难度炸弹。代码公开后，参与者可以运行节点接入该平行网络。

2016 年 TheDAO 合约遭遇可重入攻击，以太坊社区围绕“代码即法律”与社会层干预产生分裂，最终形成 Ethereum 与 Ethereum Classic 两条链。《Soft Spoon》以这一历史节点为背景，重新观察早期以太坊理想主义及其现实代价。

Introduction

Soft Spoon rewinds the state of Ethereum to the last block before TheDAO contract was deployed and, from the next height onward, activates a new Chain ID, letting a parallel chain that never underwent TheDAO episode grow anew.

The work plays on "Hard Fork" with its title "Soft Spoon". It does not repair the on-chain rupture that actually occurred; instead it anchors the block state at the moment before TheDAO contract was deployed and establishes another timeline from the source.

Technically, the work modifies an early Geth client to use Chain ID 2517 from block #1428757 onward and enables EIP-155 replay protection; mining difficulty is reset to a level at which an ordinary CPU can take part, and the early difficulty bomb is removed. With the code made public, participants can run a node and join this parallel network.

Background

In 2016 TheDAO contract suffered a reentrancy attack, and the Ethereum community split over "code is law" versus intervention at the social layer, eventually producing the two chains Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. Soft Spoon takes this historical juncture as its background and re-examines early Ethereum idealism and the price it paid in reality.

Concept

The work treats a public chain as "an old photograph from ten years ago": it passes no judgement on the actual development path of Ethereum, but by forking time it shows what a world in which TheDAO vulnerability was never introduced might once have looked like.
