This article presents Liu Jiaying's (CryptoZR's) Red and Blue as a reflection of the geopolitical competition between the United States and China as played out in the crypto world.

In September 2019, Liu Jiaying released 100 color blocks transitioning from red to blue on the Ethereum blockchain, each representing an NFT for auction. The artist remained silent about the meaning of each block throughout the one-year bidding process.

The red blocks represent Chinese ideological identity (drawn from the Chinese flag), while the blue blocks represent American ideological identity (drawn from the American flag). The gradient represents the spectrum between these two poles.

During the bidding process, the most extreme red and blue blocks attracted the highest prices, while intermediate colors were less contested. This pattern mirrored real-world political polarization — participants gravitated toward the extreme ends of the spectrum rather than seeking middle ground.

At the close of the auction, collector GeoffreyX acquired both the reddest and bluest blocks, commenting: "I hope that technological progress and the evolution of art can help societies reunite."
